Child Wellbeing Officer – Cairns Residential Healing Place
Location:Cairns| Status:Full Time, 76 hours per fortnight| Salary:SCHCDSI Level 4–5
About Warringu
Warringu is an Aboriginal Community Controlled, not-for-profit organisation governed by a community Board of Directors.
We deliver specialist services supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children impacted by domestic, family and/or sexual violence and homelessness across Cairns and surrounding regions, including Yarrabah, the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York and the Torres Strait.
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Child Wellbeing Officer to support children and families living in a residential DFV healing environment.
This role provides trauma-informed, child-centred support that promotes safety, emotional wellbeing, and healthy development through play-based learning, structured activities, and engagement with education and community services.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, schools, and external services to support stability, connection, and recovery for children impacted by trauma and family violence.
Key Responsibilities
Provide child-centred, trauma-informed support to children affected by DFV and adversity
Plan and deliver play-based and structured developmental activities tailored to individual needs
Support emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour outcomes
Observe, document, and respond to children's emotional and behavioural needs in collaboration with staff and caregivers
Support engagement with education and early learning services
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure coordinated care
About You (Selection Criteria)
Experience supporting children impacted by trauma or disrupted environments, with sound understanding of child development and trauma‐related behaviours.




Experience supporting children's engagement in education and early learning, including liaising with schools, early childhood services, and caregivers.
Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Cultural capability and experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and young people and/or CALD communities.
Essential Requirements
Relevant qualification in Education (Early Childhood or Primary), Child Development, Community Services (Child & Adolescent), or a related discipline.
Minimum three (3) years' experience in child development, youth services, or educational support roles.
Current Drivers Licence.
Blue Card - Suitability for Child-Related Employment.
Successful National Police Check, dated within the last three months.
