About the Role
West Coast Engineering & Welding is seeking an experiencedSupervisor to lead and coordinate our workshop and site-based operations across a variety of SMP construction, maintenance and shutdown projects.
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing trades personnel, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards while maintaining strong client relationships and promoting a positive team culture.
The successful candidate will be a proactive leader with robust technical knowledge, excellent organisational skills and a commitment to safety, quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate workshop and site-based fabrication, welding, pipefitting and SMP activities
Lead and mentor tradespeople, apprentices and subcontractors
Plan, schedule and allocate labour, equipment and materials to meet project requirements
Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, procedures and standards
Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and daily work planning activities
Monitor productivity, workmanship and project progress
Review drawings, specifications, work packs and construction documentation
Ensure compliance with quality requirements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and client standards
Manage site safety, hazard reporting, SWMS, JSA compliance and permit requirements
Liaise with clients, project managers, suppliers and internal stakeholders
Assist with project planning, procurement and resource forecasting
Monitor and maintain workshop equipment, vehicles, tools and plant
Support shutdown, maintenance and construction activities across various client sites
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost control and operational efficiency
Complete required reporting, timesheets, quality records and project documentation
What We're Looking For
Trade qualification in Boilermaking, Pipefitting,
Mechanical Fitting or related discipline
Previous experience in a supervisory or leading hand role within SMP, mining, oil & gas, energy or heavy industrial environments
Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, piping installation and maintenance activities
Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate multiple work fronts
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs; and technical specifications
Sound knowledge of Australian Standards, quality requirements and industry best practices
Strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental compliance
Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities
Current Australian Driver's Licence
Construction White Card
High Risk Work Licences, Confined Space, Working at Heights and First Aid qualifications highly regarded
