The Organisation
Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) delivering holistic primary healthcare across East Arnhem Land.
Their values are deeply rooted in empowerment, cultural respect, and community wellbeing and operate in some of Australia's most remote regions, collaborating closely with Yolngu people to improve health outcomes and community harmony.
The Role
This executive management position provides high-level strategic oversight of Miwatj Health's human resource function with a focus on developing strategy, policy and systems that facilitate the organisation's people to deliver on the overarching strategic plan; integrating Miwatj's unique culture and values into daily operations and performance metrics, ensuring accountability at all levels; developing a high performance HR team; and, embedding a focus on the organisation's overall safety objectives and compliance with statutory and legal requirements and standards, to protect the safety and wellbeing of all employees as well as the interests of the organisation.
The role is in Darwin with regular travel to East Arnhem Land.
Key Skills & Experience
Relevant qualifications in Human Resources and ideally additional qualifications in safety
A background in developing and implementing HR strategy
Demonstrable experience in building, mentoring and leading a team in a culturally sensitive environment
Understanding of Aboriginal culture and a commitment to fostering respectful and culturally protected workplaces
The capability to navigate the complexities of working in remote settings
Commitment to self-development as well that of others
Proven ability to drive leadership capability
Strong safety focus with experience in implementing safety policies, procedures
Ability to travel across East Arnhem Land (including travel in a light aircraft) and a current manual driver's licence.
