About UsRugged Group designs and builds products for adventurous, outdoor lifestyles.
Our flagship product, the Rugged Glamp, is a portable, self-contained glamping tent system built to be set up in places permanent structures can't reach — mountainsides, coastal headlands, remote bushland — without groundworks or specialist labour.
It handles serious weather, packs down for transport in a standard shipping container, and can be deployed by two people in a matter of hours.
We build for the kind of places our team genuinely loves spending time in: remote backcountry camps, off-grid resorts, and everywhere in between.
The outdoor lifestyle isn't just our product category — it's how we try to run the business too.
We're a team that gets out and does adventurous things together, and we're looking for people who'll bring that same energy.
We're heading into an exciting growth phase with an ambitious product roadmap ahead, and we want people who are keen to grow with us as we build it out.
The Role.
We're looking for a Product Design Assistant to work closely with our Head of Product, supporting design, development, and a broad range of functions across the product side of the business.
Depending on what's needed week to week, this could include:
• 3D modelling and CAD work in Autodesk Fusion — from concept sketches through to production-ready parts and assemblies• Producing renders (stills and animation) for internal reviews, marketing, and manufacturing partners• Supporting prototyping and iteration on new products and product variants• Helping prepare documentation for manufacturing and suppliers (drawings, specs, BOMs)• Assisting with sourcing and liaising with manufacturing and supply chain partners• Contributing to design reviews and problem-solving across hardgoods, softgoods, and electronics• General support across the product function — this is a hands-on, varied role, and no two weeks will look the same
This is a broad,
generalist role by design.
As a small, growing team, you'll get exposure to more of the end-to-end product development process than you'd typically get in a narrower junior role elsewhere.
What you'll bring.
• Studying or recently graduated in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field• Solid 3D modelling skills, ideally in Autodesk Fusion (our main platform)• Experience producing product or architectural renders — stills and/or animation• Exposure to hardgoods, softgoods, and/or electronics — all a robust plus• Some knowledge or experience in manufacturing and supply chain is a bonus, not a requirement• A generalist mindset: a fast learner who's comfortable picking up new tools and processes, and keen to take ownership rather than wait to be told what to do• Comfortable working in a small, agile team where priorities can shift• We're a predominantly Mac/Apple environment — familiarity is helpful, but not a dealbreaker
We're genuinely open on experience level.
Uni students, recent grads, and early-career designers are all welcome to apply — what matters most is attitude, adaptability, and a real interest in the outdoor and adventure space.
What we offer.
• A competitive casual rate to start, with real opportunities to progress• Genuine investment in your growth and development — we want this role to grow with you• Exposure to the full product development lifecycle, from concept through to manufacturing• Potential to travel to events, and to our manufacturing and supply chain partners, if that interests you• A team culture built around the outdoors — not just talked about, actually lived• Based at our Fremantle office — we'd love you in person, though we can be flexible on this
How to Apply.
Start the process through the LinkedIn application link.
We will then reach out for your CV and a link to your portfolio (or a few examples of your best work — Fusion models, renders, sketches, whatever shows how you think).
