The Role:
This Senior Legal Officer role sits within the Legal Services Unit and reports to the Chief Legal Officer; however, it is a dedicated legal role supporting the Office of the Registrar General.
It offers a rare chance to work directly with the Registrar-General on complex and high impact legal matters connected to South Australia's land titles system, statutory functions, and regulatory responsibilities.
This is not a generalist government legal role; it is a specialist position for a legal officer who wants to be immersed in a unique and important field.

The role provides the chance to work across a highly specialised area that touches some of the most significant elements of the state's land administration and conveyancing framework.
The successful candidate will support the Registrar-General on matters involving the Real Property Act **** and associated legislation, the national electronic conveyancing framework, litigation and tribunal matters, Torrens Assurance Fund claims, and legal issues arising from the state's contractual and operating arrangements in the electronic conveyancing environment.
It is a role for someone who enjoys technically complex work, careful statutory and contractual analysis, and navigating legal issues that carry both operational and regulatory significance.




The Senior Legal Officer will work closely with the Crown Solicitor's Office by providing instructions for requests for advice and litigation matters.
A standout feature of this role is the national exposure it offers.
The Senior Legal Officer will support the Registrar-General's engagement in legal and regulatory working groups connected to Australia's electronic conveyancing framework, including work associated with the Australian Registrars' National Electronic Conveyancing Council and National Electronic Conveyancing Data Standards (NECDS) Ltd.
That means the role is not only about advising within South Australia, but it also involves contributing to legal and regulatory discussions that help shape national settings, standards and reform directions This role presents a significant opportunity to build genuine depth and profile in a niche but increasingly important field.

About You:
To be successful in this position, you must be able to demonstrate experience across the following key capabilities:
A degree in law and admitted,



or eligible for admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
Holds, or is eligible to hold, a Practicing Certificate in South Australia.
A minimum of 5 years post admission or relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire, expertise in land titling systems, the Real Property Act ****, and the national electronic conveyancing framework.
Demonstrated experience providing advice to government agencies on complex legal issues and risk mitigation and using high levels of initiative and judgement to consult with senior staff when required.
Highly developed communication skills with demonstrated ability to liaise and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
A high level of personal integrity and an ability to use appropriate discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Desirable Experience ::
Experience in liaising with senior executives and/or ministerial and senior public service personnel.
Experience in property law, conveyancing, land registration systems, or government regulatory environments.
Experience working with national regulatory frameworks or intergovernmental bodies.

Special Conditions:
Successful applicants may be required to obtain a satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check prior to employment.
A renewal will be required every 3 years.
Remuneration:
LE4 - $138,016 min - $149,885 max plus superannuation.
