Position:Senior Sustainability Officer (Requisition ****)
Location:Council Chambers, ********* Spence Street, Cairns
Salary:$102,****** - $110,****** per annum (plus locality allowance, leave, and superannuation advantages)

Position Status:Full Time Permanent
Key Responsibilities include:
Lead development and implementation of sustainability, environmental and resilience policies, strategies and frameworks.
Deliver complex programs, projects and initiatives to advance Council's sustainability and climate objectives.
Identify, assess and prioritise environmental, sustainability, and climate-related risks and opportunities for integration into long-term planning.
Provide professional leadership, advice, and evidence-based recommendations to support informed planning, risk management, and decision-making.
Support and influence internal and external stakeholders, including engagement with community, industry, government agencies, and Traditional Owners.




Monitor program performance and ensure continual improvement, compliance and capability-building.
Research and keep abreast of emerging trends, best practice, and funding opportunities in sustainability and resilience.
Selection Criteria:
Degree in sustainability, environmental science/management, climate change, public policy, planning or related discipline.
Substantial relevant professional experience in policy, strategy, framework or program development and implementation.
Well-developed knowledge in sustainability, climate change mitigation/adaptation, risk management and resilience.
Policy development, project management, research and analysis, and stakeholder engagement skills.
High-level communication and collaboration abilities to drive outcomes and organisational change.
