Assistant Maintenance Technician

About the role
This role has been created to develop the next generation of maintenance personnel within our business.
Working directly alongside our Maintenance Manager, you will learn how to perform routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, machine setup and fault finding across our automated pallet manufacturing equipment, timber milling machinery, conveyors, compressors and production systems.
As your skills develop, you will become responsible for keeping our production equipment running reliably, allowing our Maintenance Manager to focus on advanced automation, PLC programming and machinery improvements.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone mechanically minded who wants to build a long-term career in industrial maintenance.
Key responsibilities
Carry out preventative maintenance and routine servicing of production equipment




Learn to correctly set up and adjust pallet manufacturing and timber milling machinery
Assist with breakdown repairs and fault finding
Replace bearings, belts, chains, pneumatic components and other mechanical parts
Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting under supervision
Maintain maintenance records and complete scheduled servicing
Maintain a safe and organised workshop and production environment
Contribute to continuous improvement projects and equipment upgrades
Support production by ensuring machinery is operating safely and efficiently
What we're looking for
Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Previous experience in manufacturing, maintenance, fitting, mechanical assembly or similar trades is preferred
Experience using hand and power tools
Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems
Basic understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics or electrical systems is advantageous but not essential
Welding, fabrication or machining experience is desirable
Forklift licence preferred but not required
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
Good physical fitness and ability to work safely around industrial machinery
Positive attitude, reliability and strong work ethic
Valid Australian work rights are required
