Structural Engineering Draftsperson- Pre-Production (Timber Design for Manufacture)
TheStructural Draftsperson- Pre-Productionis responsible for the detailed design, engineering coordination, and documentation of timber structures for manufacture and installation.
This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, manufacturing, and construction, ensuring that timber frame and panelised building systems are accurately engineered, efficiently manufactured, and seamlessly installed on site.
The role requires strong technical drafting capability, an understanding of structural engineering principles, and close collaboration with project stakeholders including architects, engineers, builders, and internal production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
· Design and engineerclosed panel timber frame systems, includingwalls, floors, and roof structures.
· Performwind, gravity, and seismic load calculationsin accordance with relevant Australian Standards.
· Develop detailedtimber framing modelsusinghsbCAD.
· CoordinateBIM modelswith steel, concrete, and other structural elements.
· Prepareproduct design and shop drawingssuitable for manufacture and construction.
Drafting & Modelling
· Produce accurateAutoCAD drawingsfor production, installation, and coordination.
· Develop and maintain3D modelsusingAlphaCAM and Autodesk Inventor(or demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn).
· PrepareCAM filesfor CNC machinery including (but not limited to):
o Weinmann
o Hundegger
o Randek
o Holzma
o Weeke
Manufacturing & Pre-Production
· Prepare and issueBills of Materials (BOMs)for production and procurement.
· Optimise designs formanufacturing efficiency, including panel nesting and multi‐wall optimisation.
· Supportproduction planning, ensuring designs align with factory capabilities and workflows.
· Assist withtransport planning, including panel sizes, sequencing, and load optimisation.
Site & Installation Support
· Preparesite installation drawings and documentation.
· Assist withinstallation sequencing and planningto minimise site issues and rework.
· Provide technical support during installation as required.
Coordination & Communication
· Liaise withproject developers, architects, engineers, consultants, and buildersto resolve design and constructability issues.
· Coordinate timber designs withconcrete, steel, and other structural materials.
· Participate in design reviews and value‐engineering discussions.
Education/Trade Qualification
Essential
Certificate, Diploma, trade qualification, or equivalent experience in Drafting, Design, or Engineering is preferred not essential
Skills
Essential
Proven Experience 2 years as a Draftsperson/ Designer within timber construction, prefabrication, or DfMA
Strong understating oftimber engineering principlesand structural systems
Proficiency inAutoCAD
Experience withhsbCADor similar timber framing software
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings
Solid attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
Desirable
Experience withAlPHACAMand /orAutodesk Inventor.
Familiarity withCNC timber manufacturing machinery.
Experience working inpanelised or modular constructionenvironments.
Knowledge ofAustralian Standardsrelevant to timber, wind, and seismic design.
BIM coordination experience across multiple disciplines.
Monday to Friday, (possible Saturdays as required) working in Welshpool Western Australia.
