THE OPPORTUNITY
The Assistant Head of Department – Business and Economics supports the strategic leadership, curriculum development and operational effectiveness of the College's Business and Economics learning areas.
Working closely with the Head of Department, this position provides curriculum leadership and teaching excellence across Economics, Business, Commerce and Legal Studies, while fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and outstanding student outcomes.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced Economics and Business educator who is seeking to further develop their leadership capabilities.
The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate the capacity and experience to teach Senior Economics through to Year 12, with a strong understanding of Queensland senior curriculum requirements and a proven track record of supporting excellent student outcomes.
As a member of the Academic Leadership Team, the Assistant Head of Department will contribute to whole-school academic initiatives, curriculum improvement and strategic educational priorities.
Experience within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) will be highly regarded, as the successful applicant will provide leadership and support for relevant MYP Business learning areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the leadership and development of a high-performing Business and Humanities department, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and academic excellence
Support the delivery, review and enhancement of Economics, Business, Accounting, Legal Studies in Years 11 and 12 and lead the MYP Business subjects of Commerce, Business, Legal Studies and Economics in Years 9 and 10
Teach Senior Economics through to Year 12,
modelling exemplary teaching practice and supporting outstanding student achievement
Mentor and support teaching staff through curriculum collaboration, professional learning and the sharing of effective pedagogical practices
Use student achievement data and evidence-informed practices to drive continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching and learning outcomes
Contribute as a member of the Academic Leadership Team, supporting strategic initiatives, future-focused learning opportunities and whole-school priorities.
ABOUT YOU
Demonstrated experience teaching Senior Economics through to Year 12, with a track record of strong student achievement outcomes
Strong knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary Economics, and Business programs
Experience in curriculum leadership, including the capacity to support staff development, curriculum innovation and educational excellence
International Baccalaureate experience, particularly within the Middle Years Programme (MYP), will be highly regarded as the AHOD leads theses subjects, relevant to their departments
Ability to foster student innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and a passion for learning and achievement
Excellent relationship-building skills, with the capacity to work effectively with students, families, colleagues and the broader College community
Strong organisational, analytical, problem-solving and curriculum writing skills, with a commitment to continuous improvement
High standards of professionalism, integrity, resilience and discretion
Queensland College of Teachers registration and current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
