Public Service Officer
The City of Clinton is currently accepting applications for a Full Time Public Service Officer.
This position is responsible for the performance of a variety of field and office activities relating to the routine, non-sworn aspects of law enforcement.
This position does not possess arrest powers, is not authorized to carry a firearm or impact weapon, and does not enforce criminal laws, respond to emergency calls or calls where the potential for confrontation exists.
This position may require shift work, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Two (2) years of experience in a related field is preferred.
3. United States citizen.
4. Valid Driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
5. Pass a background check.
6. Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted of the above eligibility requirements.
******** RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS All full-time city employees employed by the city after September 1, ****, must reside within 20 air miles of City Hall within one year after their first day of work and remain within 20 air miles of their place of employment throughout their period of employment with the city.
These residency requirements are a condition of employment with the city.
Any existing employment contracts specifying a residency requirement shall take precedence over this section.
Residency means the primary address where the full-time employee lives at least 75% of the time, and where said employee receives mail on a regular basis.
Special Requirements
Knowledge of department regulations, policies and procedures, City ordinances, State statutes and federal laws, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
2. Knowledge of modern practices, procedures and equipment, including computers and word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
3. Skill in the operation of office and telecommunications equipment and machines including; a personal computer, mobile computer terminal, and phone system.
4. Skill in preparing and maintaining complete and accurate reports.
5. Ability to analyze problems and determine proper solutions or make appropriate recommendations.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective and qualified relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and police department information.
9. Ability to tolerate physical extremes from being seated and at rest to physical exertion in short periods of time.
10. Ability to perform tasks with intense concentration for extended periods of time while remaining calm.
11. Ability to work in a structured command environment, working as a member of a team or as an individual.
12. Ability to work well and for sustained periods of time in extreme temperature and weather conditions.

1. Responds to non-emergency calls including, but not limited to; Nuisance complaints, bicycle recovery, abandoned vehicles, unclaimed property, and non-injury accidents on private property.
2. Respond to emergency calls to provide roadway closure assistance including but not limited to: natural disasters, hazardous materials, chemical/biological/nuclear releases, fires, industrial and transportation accidents, medical emergencies.
3. Prepares accurate written reports of particular incidents and events with emphasis on clarity, completeness, proper grammar, and punctuation.
4. Assists in the investigation of motor vehicle accidents.
5. Prepares lost and found property reports.
6. Assist with vehicle service and maintenance.
7. Accesses, enters and retrieves information from the department computer system.
8. Performs desk and in-house assignments.
9. Responds to telephone or in-person lobby traffic inquiries.
10. Greets the general public, provides information on departmental services, directs callers.
11. Receive, sort,
and distribute mail for assigned function or division.
12. Provides courier service for the Police Department.
13. Communicate information to the general public, co-workers, and city personnel while promoting positive working relationships with the public and city personnel.
14. Control, regulate, and direct traffic and pedestrians using barriers, flares, and hand signals.
as a result of an emergency or community event.
15. Performs parking enforcement for restricted parking areas.
16. Assists Animal Protection Officer in related activities, and provides animal control coverage during absences.
17. Provides escorts for funeral processions and wide loads.
18. Safely drive and/or operate motor vehicles and equipment without causing harm to self or others; wear all required personal protective equipment including but not limited to latex gloves, mask, reflective safety vest.
19. Attends court on/off duty and compensated per applicable bargaining unit agreements.
20. Interact and work with citizens; explain city ordinances or other City procedures of public information.
21. Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues and supervisors.
22. Participate in mandatory and elective training.
