We require an energetic person with a 'can-do' attitude to join our team in the full time position of Technical Assistant to be located at the UMS Research Station in Cressy Tasmania.
Duties include.
• Hands-on role in cutting, processing and measuring industry pasture dry matter trials.
• Undertaking practical activities associated with growing seedlings, planting and harvest of our nursery and plant breeding sites.
• Assist in establishment and maintenance of glasshouse seed multiplication.
• Practically assist the plant breeding team to ensure the success of breeding and trial programs.
• Hands-on role in the care, maintenance, and irrigation of trial sites.
• Collection of data from our trial sites with a high level of care and attention to detail.
• Working in the field under often challenging weather conditions and undertaking manual handling and lifting >10kg.
• Participating in the planting, growing, maintaining and harvest of breeders and basic seed crops.
• Cleaning high value seed lines on a variety of cleaning equipment.
• Ensuring the Research Station site is always presented at a high level
The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for hands-on agricultural tasks.
Planning, organisation, time management and problem-solving skills are essential to this role.
Knowledge of seed, fertiliser and crop protection products would be an advantage although enthusiasm and a can-do attitude rate highly in our selection process.
A candidate that has a passion for landscaping, gardening or nursery production would be well regarded.
Current unrestricted driver's licence and Australian citizenship are essential to apply for this position.
