Plan, coordinate and implement in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge within Speech Pathology in order to provide high quality Speech Pathology care to patients of The Sutherland Hospital consistent with NSW Health, SESLHD policies, procedures and standards.
The Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Aged Care Senior Speech Pathologist to join our team in this unique, permanent, part time role.
This specialist role will be working at both Garrawarra Residential Aged Care Facility and The Sutherland Hospital.
It offers an exciting opportunity to develop your career and work as a valued member of the Speech Pathology department and wider multidisciplinary teams across both sites.
As a Senior Speech Pathologist at Garrawarra Centre and The Sutherland Hospital, you will play a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating adult patients/ residents with communication and swallowing disorders as well as contributing to service development, quality initiatives and clinical supervision.
This position offers the opportunity to work in unique and dynamic healthcare settings and make a meaningful impact on the well‐being of our patients/ residents.
You will be working as part of the Speech Pathology team, with access to clinical supervision and mentoring to further your clinical skills and career, as well as contributing to clinical supervision of level 1/2 Speech Pathologists in the wider Speech Pathology team.
You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team on projects/ initiatives, utilising your specialist clinical skills,
as well as collaborate with other Speech Pathologists across our district at other hospital sites.
Garrawarra Centre
Garrawarra Centre for Aged Care is a Commonwealth accredited dementia specific facility located just south of Waterfall NSW, specialising in the care of people who have advanced dementia, displaying high risk behaviours and who require care in a secure environment.
We are located adjacent to the Garrawarra State Conservation area, centrally located between Sydney and Wollongong.
Garrawarra Centre is a historic site, having been in operation since **** and serving many purposes during its history.
The old buildings remain on site and are heritage protected, bearing testament to the diverse history of the property.
In ****, a purpose built Residential Aged Care Facility was opened on the Garrawarra site, with a model of care that is holistic and focuses on the individual needs of the person living with significant symptoms associated with dementia.
Garrawarra Centre is a 104 bed facility.
There are 4 individual cottages, accommodating 26 residents in each.
Garrawarra Centre's unique location, access to outdoor areas, resources and dementia trained staff enable a high standard of dementia specific care provision for the complex residents referred to us.

Selection Criteria
Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State)
Award and eligibility for practicing membership with speech Pathology Australia and current Class C NSW Drivers Licence
Executive post graduate clinical experience in dysphagia assessment and management, including videofluoscopic swallow studies
Extensive post graduate clinical experience in assessment and management of communication impairments, including inpatient and outpatients
Excellent negotiations, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff and students
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
