About the Role
As a TBM Technician, you will be responsible for providing civil engineering support and operating the EPB Tunnel Boring Machine on the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project on this key civil engineering project.
The T2D project involves the construction of a 10.5-kilometre motorway, with three lanes in each direction and including tunnel sections, linking the River Torrens area in the north to Darlington in the south of Adelaide.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and analyse TBM parameters (face pressure, torque, thrust, spoil removal, etc.) to support civil engineers and ensure adherence to project timelines and compliance to safety standards and technical requirements.
Coordinate with civil engineers, segment erectors, and conveyor personnel to maintain continuous operations according to production schedules and timelines, as well as applying appropriate procedures and selecting correct equipment.
Continuously observing and analysing live data and adjusting parameters such as face pressure, torque, thrust, and spoil removal to ensure efficient and protected tunnelling.
Diagnose and report technical issues to senior civil engineering staff.
Ensuring the completed work satisfies the civil infrastructure projects' specifications, regulations and contract provisions.
Organising and coordinating maintenance and repair work of the TBM equipment.
Follow all safety regulations and environmental controls.
Maintain accurate shift logs, tabulations and reports to assist with production planning.
Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Ensure proper handover between shifts
Qualification & Experience
Relevant trade qualification or diploma.
Significant demonstrated experience in the operation of Tunnel Boring Machines
5+ years in TBM Operation
Strong understanding of TBM operational systems including hydraulics, electrics, and PLC interfaces
Ability to read and interpret tunnelling data, instrumentation, and geological reports
Must be safety-conscious and able to work in a team
Flexibility to work in shifts and rotational schedules
Valid certifications for confined space, working at heights, and first aid are a plus
Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
Advanced skills in relevant computer software packages; Microsoft Suite; Primavera 6 etc
Written, verbal and presentation skills e.g. facilitating meetings, pre-starts and tool box meetings and basic cost control skills
