The Role / Key Responsibilities
The Industrial Chemist provides technical assistance to handle, process, treat, chemically immobilise, neutralise and/or package hazardous waste.
They assist onsite Technical Operators when handling hazardous material and work with the Technical Manager to find treatment solutions for problematic waste streams.
The role will involve;
Waste management consultancy.
Chemical manifesting, sorting and packaging and disposal.
Offsite field operations including remote and chemical suit work.
Emergency / Spill response.
Sampling and analysis of waste materials.
Project management and onsite training.
Supervision and training of Technical Operators.
Management of laboratory services and onsite laboratory
Research and design projects for improved treatment processes.
Maintenance of site Dangerous Goods manifest.
Assessment of chemical hazard properties and disposal options.
Technical Services Client liaison and off-site operations.
Identify, segregate and handle waste materials.
Assist in the development of methodologies to safety handle, neutralise and process waste materials.
Conduct work on customer sites identifying, handling and repackaging of waste materials.
Conduct onsite and offsite manifesting.
The Ideal Candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
At least Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or closely related scientific field.
At least 1 year of experience as a chemist
Experience in Waste Management HAZMAT Emergency Response situations highly valued
Have a proactive approach, work autonomously and have availability to work outside of standard business hours (in emergency events)
Methodical and effective record keeping skills
Current valid Drivers Licence
Current Forklift Ticket
