Job Description
Zitto Golden Grove Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team at our Golden Grove venue in Adelaide, South Australia.
This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day commercial kitchen operations within a high-volume café and food service environment, planning and preparing menu items, maintaining food quality standards, coordinating kitchen workflow, assisting with menu development, supervising junior kitchen staff, and ensuring compliance with food safety and operational procedures.
The position requires the exercise of independent judgement, advanced cooking techniques, kitchen coordination and operational decision-making to support the efficient operation of the commercial kitchen.
The successful applicant will work primarily within the commercial kitchen and will not perform the duties of a café all-rounder, barista, counter-service attendant or kitchenhand.
The Chef plays a key role in maintaining the quality and consistency of food preparation, supervising junior kitchen staff, coordinating commercial kitchen operations during service periods, contributing to menu development, monitoring stock and food costs, and ensuring the effective operation of the kitchen.
The role requires sound technical cooking skills, strong organisational abilities, and the capacity to exercise independent judgement while maintaining high standards of food quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Plan, organise, prepare and cook meals in accordance with the venue's menu, recipes and service standards.




Prepare and cook a diverse range of menu items using commercial kitchen techniques, equipment and standardised recipes while maintaining consistency, quality and presentation standards.
Assist with menu planning, daily specials, recipe development, food costing and portion control.
Estimate food and ingredient requirements based on menu demand, service levels and stock availability.
Order, receive, inspect, store and rotate food supplies to maintain freshness, quality and food safety compliance.
Ensure consistency in food preparation, recipe execution and presentation standards across all menu items.
Ensure meals are presented consistently and in accordance with the venue's quality standards.
Coordinate kitchen workflow during busy service periods to ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely and efficient manner.
Discuss food preparation, menu items, service requirements and kitchen operations with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff.
Demonstrate cooking techniques and guide junior kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking, plating and presentation procedures.
Maintain and enforce hygiene, food safety, cleaning and workplace health and safety standards within the kitchen.
Supervise, train and mentor junior kitchen staff, allocate daily kitchen tasks, and monitor work performance to ensure food quality, consistency and operational efficiency.
Monitor kitchen equipment,



workstations and storage areas to ensure safe and efficient kitchen operations.
Minimise food wastage through accurate preparation, stock rotation, portion control and efficient kitchen practices.
Monitor food production costs, stock usage and kitchen productivity, and recommend improvements to maximise operational efficiency while maintaining food quality standards.
Assist management with production planning, kitchen rostering and workflow scheduling to support efficient daily operations.
Operate and monitor commercial kitchen equipment including grills, ovens, refrigeration systems and food preparation equipment while ensuring safe operating procedures are maintained.
Skills and experience required:
Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or an equivalent qualification in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality or a closely related field.
At least two years of relevant post-qualification experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.
Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, stock control and kitchen operations.
Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
Ability to work under pressure in a busy commercial kitchen environment.
Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to train, guide and supervise junior kitchen staff.
Employment Conditions
Full-time, ongoing position.
Availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
