We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer/NDT Technician to work in Perth and regional WA.
The role involves carrying out inspections, engineering assessments, audits, and quality verification during the manufacture, refurbishment, and repair of heavy mining equipment, pressure equipment, structural steel, piping systems, engine components, transmission systems, gearboxes, and other mechanical assets.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct mechanical, welding, fabrication, coating, and quality inspections at client facilities and project sites.
Perform welding inspections and verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder Qualification Tests (WQT/WPQ), engineering drawings, and project specifications.
Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities including Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
Perform Magnetic Particle Testing (MPI) inspections where appropriately certified.
Carry out coating inspections including surface preparation verification,



environmental monitoring, and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurements.
Verify compliance with Australian Standards, ASME Codes, ISO Standards, client specifications, and contractual quality requirements.
Prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection reports, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), technical assessments, and quality documentation.
Conduct dimensional inspections, fit-up inspections, in-process inspections, final inspections, and witness where required.
Review material certificates, NATA-accredited laboratory reports, NDT reports, coating records, and manufacturing documentation.
Conduct supplier audits and quality system audits in accordance with ISO **** requirements.
Investigate non-conformances, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Liaise with clients, fabricators, repair workshops, NATA-accredited laboratories, and project engineers.
Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, fabrication specifications, and engineering standards.
Prepare professional engineering and inspection reports for client acceptance and regulatory compliance.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognized qualification.
Minimum four (4) years of experience in QA/QC, welding inspection, fabrication engineering, or quality engineering within the mining, oil & gas, heavy fabrication, structural steel, or industrial sectors.
CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification or equivalent.
PCN Level 2 MPI




NACE Level 1 Coating Inspector certification or equivalent.
ISO **** Internal Auditor qualification.
Certification in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI), with additional NDT qualifications in UT, PT, or VT considered advantageous.

AS/NZS ****** – Welding of Steel Structures Subject to High Levels of Fatigue Loading
ASME Section V – Non-Destructive Examination
ASME Section IX – Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification
SSPC PA 2 – Measurement of Dry Film Thickness
ISO ***** – Protective Paint Systems
ISO **** – Quality Management Systems
ISO **** – Quality Requirements for Fusion Welding of Metallic Materials
Welding Procedure Qualification and Welder Qualification Testing
NATA laboratory testing and reporting requirements
Heavy fabrication inspection and quality assurance
Engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;), fabrication tolerances, and mechanical inspection practices.
Desirable Experience
Mining and heavy industrial projects.
Structural steel fabrication.
Pressure equipment and piping inspections.
Excavator buckets, booms, sticks, wheel loader components, and earthmoving equipment.
Engine components, gearboxes, and power transmission systems.
