As a commis chef, you will be instrumental in ensuring smooth kitchen operations whilst developing your culinary skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.
What you'll be doing
As a Casual Commis Chef, your key responsibilities will include:
Preparing and cooking food items according to established recipes and plating standards
Assisting with mise en place (preparation of ingredients and cooking stations) to ensure efficient service
Supporting senior chefs in the preparation of dishes across various stations within the kitchen
Maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with health regulations and company policies
Monitoring stock levels and assisting with inventory management
Cleaning and sanitising kitchen equipment, utensils and work surfaces
Following recipes and plating instructions precisely to maintain consistency and quality
Responding promptly to kitchen demands during service periods
Contributing to a positive, team-oriented kitchen environment and supporting team members
What we're looking for
To succeed in this casual commis chef position, you should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:
A relevant culinary qualification, apprenticeship or diploma in commercial cookery or hospitality (or equivalent practical experience)
Food Safety and Hygiene certification or willingness to obtain it
Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen safety protocols
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high food presentation standards




Ability to work effectively under pressure during busy service periods
Good communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team
Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy items safely
Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work varied shifts including evenings and weekends as required
A passion for culinary excellence and a commitment to continuous learning and skill development
