About the Role
As the Reconciliation and Inclusion Officer, you will play a key role in advancing Council's commitment to social inclusion, community wellbeing and reconciliation.
You will lead the planning, development and delivery of initiatives that promote meaningful participation, strengthen partnerships and support positive outcomes for diverse communities across the Shire.
A key focus of the role is coordinating the implementation of Council's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and fostering respectful relationships with Traditional Custodians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
You will ensure First Nations voices,
perspectives and cultural knowledge are appropriately represented in Council planning, policy development and service delivery.
You will also work across the organisation to build staff knowledge, confidence and capability in delivering culturally safe, inclusive and accessible services.
Through collaboration, advocacy and capacity building, you will contribute to embedding inclusion and equity principles into Council's programs, projects and decision-making processes.
Reporting to the Coordinator Community Inclusion the core responsibilities include:
Coordinate and deliver the Shire's Reconciliation Action Plan
Coordinate an internal working group and external stakeholder engagement relevant to Reconciliation.
Raise community awareness of Australia's First Nations peoples.
Advise and support Council departments to develop and embed relevant indigenous community considerations into policies, procedures, protocols and civic events.
About You
Education & Experience– Relevant tertiary qualification in social work, community development, Indigenous studies, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to design and deliver wellbeing-focused programs, along with the ability to manage complex and sensitive relationships with cultural awareness and respect.
Interpersonal & Management Skills– Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community members, staff, and key stakeholders, and to work collaboratively within a team.
Confident in delivering presentations to diverse audiences and representing Council in a professional manner at events and community activities.
Judgement & Decision Making- Demonstrated ability to identify potential risks and take appropriate, proactive steps to minimise impacts to Council and the community.
Written & Oral Communication– Demonstrated ability to identify and assess risks, prepare and present clear, high-quality reports to Councillors and senior managers, and build strong rapport with stakeholders and the community.
Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing for both professional and community audiences.
