About the Opportunity
The Preventive Health Officer position is an exciting joint project between the Town of Gawler and Preventive Health SA.
The Preventive Health Officer is responsible for building preventive health capacity and influencing Council to support community health and wellbeing in areas such as:
▪ Obesity prevention
▪ Alcohol and other drugs
▪ Tobacco and vaping
▪ Mental health and wellbeing
▪ Suicide prevention.
The position will plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based preventive health policy and actions to improve the physical, social and mental wellbeing of the local community in partnership with key stakeholders.
It will consider health equity and social determinants of health approaches.
Reporting to the Manager Library and Community Services, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a meaningful contribution within a collaborative, community focused and forward-thinking local government environment.
Key Responsibilities
· The development, implementation, evaluation and reporting on an agreed work plan.
· The planning and implementation of a Preventive Health and Wellbeing Policy and associated actions that address local priorities using an evidence-based approach.
· Consulting and engaging with internal council staff and key stakeholders in the planning and implementation of preventive health initiatives.
· Providing information and advice, as necessary to assist the Council, the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Management, relative to the agreed deliverables.
· Building capacity and capability to apply a preventive health lens within Council to promote community health and wellbeing.
· Developing funding submissions as required to aid in the improvement of community health and wellbeing.
· Collaborating with neighbouring Councils to identify regional preventive health opportunities.
· Developing reports, as required in relation to project activities.

About You
Enthusiastic about community wellbeing and preventive health, you will have sound knowledge encompassing preventive health, health promotion,
social issues and relevant legislative requirements in South Australia.
You can work collaboratively across Council, engage with stakeholders and provide clear, evidence-based advice to support preventive health initiatives.
Essential requirements
· Relevant tertiary qualifications in community services, community health and wellbeing, and/or allied health; or relevant experience which will demonstrate the ability to fulfil the requirements of the position.
· Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, and Right to Work Check, from National Crime Check.
· Department for Human Services Working With Children Check (WWCC).
· Department for Human Services Aged Care Sector Employment Check.
· Child Safe Setting Certificate (Mandatory Notification equivalent).
· First Aid Certificate.
· Current Class C driver's licence.
