Waterson Diesel FNQ is seeking a motivated and hands-on Workshop Supervisor/2IC to join our North Mackay branch.
Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, this role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, workshop coordination experience, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service within the diesel, automotive, transport or heavy equipment industry.
About the Role
As the Workshop Supervisor/2IC, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy mechanical workshop, ensuring repairs, servicing, and maintenance are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
You will have the ability to step up when required to support the operations manager during leave periods or as required.
You will lead a team of mechanics and apprentices, coordinate workflow and scheduling, maintain productivity and compliance standards, and work closely with the operations manager to support the ongoing success and growth of the business.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing leadership, technical knowledge, workshop coordination, and customer relationships.

Your Responsibilities
· Lead, mentor, and support mechanics, apprentices, and workshop staff
· Manage daily workshop workflow, scheduling, and productivity
· Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed safely and efficiently
· Maintain high workmanship and customer service standards
· Step up to oversee the operation when needed
· Assist with diagnostics and complex mechanical issues where required
· Monitor workshop performance, efficiency, and job profitability
· Work alongside the parts co-ordinator to streamline procurement
· Ensure compliance with WHS policies and industry regulations
· Maintain accurate job records, reporting, and workshop systems
· Work collaboratively with management to improve workshop operations
· Manage required high risk activities in accordance with workplace law
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
· Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, or similar
· Previous experience leading or supervising a mechanical workshop
· Strong leadership and people management skills
· A positive can do attitude
· Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving ability
· Experience working with heavy vehicles, diesel engines, machinery, or fleet maintenance
· Robust organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads
· Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and workshop systems
· Excellent communication and customer relationship skills
· A proactive, reliable, and team-focused attitude
