KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Metal Fabricator primarily reworks and redesigns wheel rims and
centres to meet specific design requirements by using operating tools to
prepare parts, machining components for assembly, and aligning pieces using callipers,
rulers, and clamps.
Metal Fabricators weld components using manual or
semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or
overhead).
They must test and inspect welded surfaces and structures for
defects and support the broader STW team across various functions.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan
layout and procedures.
2.
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on
requirements.
3. Set up components for welding and joining according to specifications.
4. Operate tools to prepare the parts for assembly.
5. Machine parts and components to be used to assemble final products.
6. Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.
7. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in
various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
8. Test and inspect welded surfaces, structures, and comp to discover
flaws.
9. Maintain
equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Other duties related to skill and capabilities as required.
Requirements
SKILLS &
EXPERIENCE
1. Proven experience in metalwork.
2. Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers,
etc.
).
3. Experience in using large machinery such as lathes and mills.
4. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
5. Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use
protective clothing (face shield, gloves, etc.).
6. Proven deftness and attention to detail.
7. Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential Criteria
1. Proficient in English
2. Completion of year 10
WACE or equivalent
Desirable Criteria
1. Successful
completion of VET program or apprenticeship is highly desirable.
2. Qualified
certification will be a plus.
3. Experience
using various welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.).
SKILLS:
1. Ability to work under limited
supervision individually or in a team environment.
2. Autonomous and solves their work
planning problems.
3. Strong attention to detail.
4. Good verbal and written communication
skills.
5. Team Player.
