About the Family Care Service
The Family Care Service provides support to First Nations children and young people in the Child Safety space, and Kinship and General Carers on Palm Island and in Townsville.
The Service has four primary areas of operation:
Connecting Kin - support children and young people aged under 18 years who are subject to the Chief Executive's custody or guardianship under the Act and who are not yet in the care of family members as approved carers, or who would benefit from enhanced family connections.
Equipping Kin - support family member/s who have made an initial application to be assessed as kinship carer for a relative in care. These services work with families who are new to statutory care to complete their initial carer assessment and initial orientation to statutory care.
Supporting Kin - will support kinship care places in Palm Island & Townsville by providing ongoing support to approved kinship carer households via carer orientation, skill development, access to short break arrangements, carer renewal assessments and shared planning activities in relation to Placement Agreements and the child or young person's case plans.
Supporting Carers – Ongoing support for General carers (recent program commencing1 July ****).
The Foster & Kinship Care Service is a licensed service, and is required to meet Human Services Quality Framework (HSQF) standards.
About the role
Reporting to Manager, Children and Youth Services,



this role is responsible for supporting and implementing the four key areas of practice. The role may include working with children and families within the Connecting and Equipping Kin programs; recruiting and supporting Kinship carers within the Supporting Kin program, and; ongoing carer support for general foster carers.
The role will also include potential travel to Palm Island to support children and carers as required.

Selection criteria
Mandatory
Relevant Qualifications in social services or willingness to obtain additional qualification as required (e.g. Certificate IV)
Knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the Child Protection Act
Ability to work autonomously or within a team
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Competent in the use of computers
Current Queensland Notice of Suitability or willingness to apply
Current Blue Card (working with children and young people)
Current Driver's Licence
Able and willing to travel to Palm Island as required.
Desirable
Competence in data systems (SRS)
Experience in industry is desirable but not essential
Assessment Writing is desired but not essential
