The opportunity
The AFL Finance team plays a critical role in supporting the financial management, strategy and operations of the AFL, its affiliated entities and AFL Clubs across the industry.
As Senior Accounts Payable Officer, you will lead Accounts Payable operations across AFL House and affiliated entities, helping to ensure payments are processed accurately, efficiently and in line with established controls and business requirements. You will play a key role in maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors and clubs while supporting best-practice financial processes across the industry.
Based at AFL House in Melbourne, this role is suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of end-to-end processes, driving continuous improvement and building strong working relationships in a fast-paced setting.
What You'll Own
You'll lead the end-to-end Accounts Payable function across AFL House and affiliated entities, ensuring solid financial controls, effective cash management and a consistent approach to accounts payable processes.
You'll Add Value Through
Overseeing and managing end-to-end accounts payable processing, including payment runs, reconciliations and reporting
Leading Accounts Payable operations across AFL House and affiliated entities, supporting efficient cash outflows across the industry
Maintaining a robust control environment through effective invoice matching, payment approvals and compliance with financial policies
Contributing to weekly, monthly and annual cash flow forecasting processes
Developing and reporting on meaningful KPIs that measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the Accounts Payable function
Continuously reviewing and improving processes to optimise service delivery and strengthen systems and controls




Building trusted relationships with vendors, AFL Clubs, cost centre managers and finance stakeholders
Partnering with Procurement teams to support compliance with purchasing and procurement processes
Producing ad hoc purchasing and payables reporting to support business decision-makingSupporting month‐end activities, including balance sheet reconciliations where required
Maintaining and enhancing Accounts Payable policies, procedures and documentation
Leading, coaching and developing a team of two while driving a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
What you'll bring
Demonstrated experience in a senior Accounts Payable or similar finance role
Strong understanding of end-to-end Accounts Payable processes, controls and reconciliations
Experience working within ERP environments and implementing process improvements that enhance systems and operational efficiency
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
Experience influencing outcomes and promoting compliance across a complex organisation
Strong leadership capability with a commitment to supporting and developing others
High levels of integrity, accountability and attention to detail
The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast‐paced environment
A continuous improvement mindset and a proactive approach to problem‐solving
Experience within a sporting, stadium or membership‐based organisation will be viewed favourably
