Job Description
Nusource Australia Pty Ltd The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and motivated Carpenter to join our Surefoot WA team.
Key Responsibilities Review and interpret drawings, engineering plans, and specifications to determine required materials, dimensions, footing locations, and installation procedures for Surefoot systems, associated lightweight steel structures, and outdoor hardscape installations.
Prepare layouts and set out footing positions in accordance with project plans, ensuring correct alignment and spacing to support lightweight steel framing systems and outdoor hardscape structures on both level and sloped or landscaped sites.
Source and coordinate required materials including Surefoot components, timber elements, steel components, decking boards, and other construction materials suited to structural and hardscape applications.
Install Surefoot concrete-free footings by positioning and securing footing systems, ensuring correct load transfer and structural stability for lightweight steel framing and outdoor hardscape installations.
Measure, cut, and shape materials and fabricate required timber or support components, including joints and profiles as required for structural and hardscape installation.
Configure and prepare structural elements and fittings prior to installation, ensuring compatibility with lightweight steel framing systems and associated outdoor hardscape structures.
Assist with constructing frameworks, panelised systems, roof framing, and outdoor overhead structures associated with lightweight steel and hardscape installations, ensuring accuracy, level, and structural integrity Install sub-flooring components, decking boards, and raised walkway surfaces where required and verify the trueness and alignment of installed structures.
Fix and secure fascia panels, roof sheathing,
exterior wall cladding, and door and window frames as required to support structural installation.
Work collaboratively with lightweight steel installers to ensure the footing system is correctly aligned with steel frames and structural loads, and coordinate with the site landscaper to ensure installation works are appropriately sequenced around soft and hardscape extraction, reinstatement, and landscaping works.
Operate and maintain hand and power tools required for cutting, shaping, assembling, and installing structural and hardscape components.
Set out and build concrete formwork where required for related hardscape works including paths, patios, stepped areas, and walkways, as well as other associated construction works on site.
Carry out repairs or adjustments to existing fittings, structural elements and hardscape components when required.
Work with a variety of materials including timber, decking timbers, composite boards, lightweight steel, plastic laminates, perspex, and metals as part of the structural and hardscape installation process.
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with workplace safety requirements, engineering specifications, and Australian building standards, including on sloped, landscaped, and environmentally sensitive sites where ground disturbance must be minimised.
Relevant Qualification and Experience Required Relevant Certificate III or IV + 2 years relevant experience OR 3 years relevant experience in substitute to the qualification Relevant Skills Required Plan Reading & Layout:
Ability to read engineering plans and accurately mark out footing positions, especially on uneven or sloped sites.
Carpentry Skills: Strong practical skills for building structural frames, decks, and outdoor hardscapes using timber and steel.
Tool Operation: Experience safely using power tools and heavy equipment, specifically jackhammers.
Physical Fitness: Good physical stamina for manual labour, handling materials, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Problem Solving: Ability to adapt installations to challenging ground conditions without excavating or damaging the landscape.
Teamwork: Good communication skills to coordinate smoothly with steel framers and site landscapers.
Safety Focus: A strong commitment to workplace safety and following Australian building standards.
