Operating on the original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook, our century-old railway welcomes visitors from across Australia and the world for authentic, memory-making journeys.
About the Opportunity
Based predominantly at ourBelgrave workshopwith some requirement to work at other locations across the Puffing Billy rail corridor, we have a full-time position 75hrs per fortnight, for an experienced trade qualified Workshops Leading Hand.
The role remains hands-on while coordinating daily workflows, supervising team performance, ensuring compliance with the Railway Safety Management System, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
This is a rare opportunity to work with a team of talented trades and craftspeople ensuring the highest standards of maintenance and presentation of locomotive and carriages of an internationally recognised heritage steam rail organisation.
What you'll do
Repair, maintain and restore heritage locomotives and rolling stock
Use a variety of machinery, such as lathes, grinders and milling machines
Interpret technical drawings and use precision measuring tools
Work with a welcoming team of skilled skilled trades and apprentices
What you'll bring




Formal mechanical trade qualifications
Trade experience as a fitter machinist in a similar position, particularly in a heavy machinery workshop environment
Demonstrated experience in team supervision and development
High level technical aptitude and mechanical skill
Proven commitment to safety and learning
