This role will be based at HOTA, Home of the Arts.
HOTA is an iconic Gold Coast destination where art, entertainment, culture and lifestyle meet.

HOTA offers a diverse suite of venues and facilities, including a gallery, outdoor stage, indoor theatres and cinemas, function and events rooms, as well as a range of food and beverage venues including the HOTA Café, the rooftop Exhibitionist Bar and three hat Palette Restaurant.
At the heart of HOTA's identity is a rich and diverse program: live music, theatre, dance, comedy, film, visual art exhibitions, children's shows, community workshops, and festivals - all taking place across the array of venues.
About the Role
The Lighting Technician role is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation, maintenance, presentation, and delivery of lighting services across HOTA's venues and facilities.
This is a part time position, working 20 hours per week.
Reporting to the Head of Lighting and working with the wider team including Senior Lighting Technicians and Production, the role contributes to the successful delivery of events, productions, exhibitions, performances, and venue activities through the operation of lighting systems, provision of show crew support, and maintenance of departmental assets and infrastructure.
The position plays a key role in ensuring lighting equipment, systems, workspaces, and storage areas remain safe, organised, and operationally ready.
In addition to maintenance and asset management responsibilities, the Lighting Technician will regularly support internal business units with venue setups, pack downs, operational requirements, and ad hoc technical activities across the precinct.
As an active member of the Technical department, the role is expected to contribute to event delivery, venue operations, production support, and show crew activities while maintaining high standards of safety, presentation, customer service, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Lighting Department Maintenance & Upkeep:
Maintain lighting equipment, infrastructure, and systems in a protected and operational condition.
Undertake routine inspections,



preventative maintenance, cleaning, testing, and fault reporting of lighting equipment.
Assist with test and tag activities and ensure equipment remains compliant and fit for use.
Support the upkeep and presentation of lighting control rooms, dimmer rooms, workshops, storage areas, and technical spaces.
Assist with equipment repairs and maintenance as directed by the Head of Lighting or Senior Lighting Technicians.
Identify damaged, faulty, or ageing equipment and report issues promptly.
Maintain organised equipment storage and workshop areas.
Prepare, test, clean, and return lighting equipment following productions and events.
Ensure equipment is correctly labelled, stored, and maintained in accordance with departmental procedures.
Venue & System Standards:
Assist in maintaining venue lighting systems and infrastructure to departmental standards.
Support routine checks of installed lighting equipment and venue systems.
Assist with venue upgrades, equipment installations, and improvement projects.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout all lighting department work areas.
Event Support:
Assist with the preparation, installation, operation, and removal of lighting equipment for events, productions, exhibitions, and venue activities.
Support venue changeovers, bump-ins, bump-outs, rehearsals, performances, and event delivery activities.
Operate lighting systems and equipment during events and productions as directed.
Perform show crew duties across HOTA venues and facilities as required.
Assist Lighting Seniors and the Head of Lighting with event delivery requirements.
Provide technical support to internal business units for meetings, functions, activations, exhibitions, and special events.
Assist with the setup, operation, and pack down of technical equipment across multiple disciplines where required.
Support the delivery of departmental projects, venue improvements, and operational initiatives.
Contribute to maintaining venue readiness and ensuring a high standard of presentation for all events and activities.
Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the position and skill level.
Support venue operations and customer service outcomes by contributing to the successful delivery of events and activities across the precinct.
Assist with general technical operations activities across staging, audio, video,



and venue operations where required.
Operate equipment in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.
Follow safe work practices when working at heights, handling equipment, and undertaking maintenance activities.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Comprehensive knowledge of professional lighting equipment and systems.
Experience working within live events, performing arts, entertainment, or technical venue environments.
Ability to support the delivery of live events, productions, exhibitions, and venue operations in a dynamic environment.
Ability to undertake equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Robust communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, presentation, and operational readiness.
Demonstrated ability to work safely in a live event environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) if required by the duties of the role.
Desirable:
Entertainment Industry experience.
Current EWP licence (or willingness to obtain).
Current Working at Heights training.
Current Open Driver's Licence.
