About The Role
As the Team Leader Operating Business Partners, you will play a critical leadership role within Council's Finance team, partnering with operational leaders across the organisation to drive financial performance, strategic decision-making, and value creation for the Townsville community.
Reporting to the Team Manager Commercial Services, you will lead a team of finance professionals who provide high-quality financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and business advisory services. You will foster strong collaborative relationships across Council, ensuring financial insights are embedded into operational and strategic decisions while supporting the delivery of Council's Corporate Plan and long-term financial sustainability objectives.
This role offers the opportunity to influence organisational outcomes by developing a high-performing finance business partnering function, providing strategic financial leadership, and championing a culture of accountability, customer focus, safety, and continuous improvement. Working closely with senior leaders, you will help shape business direction, identify opportunities for enhanced performance, and support Council's vision of growing Townsville through sustainable and responsible financial management.

About You
Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing finance professionals within a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Extensive experience in financial planning,
budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and business performance analysis.
Strong experience operating within a finance business partnering model, providing trusted financial advice to senior leaders and key stakeholders.
Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across a diverse organisation.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into meaningful business insights.
Proven ability to drive financial performance through strategic thinking, problem solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience leading teams through change while effectively managing risks, priorities, and competing business demands.
Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to support both operational and strategic decision-making.
A commitment to fostering a customer-focused, accountable, and values-driven workplace culture.
Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety and promoting a positive safety culture through visible leadership.
Degree qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related discipline.
CPA or CA qualification (or the ability to obtain membership).
Current Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence.
