Are you looking for a rewarding career working outdoors in one of Australia's most beautiful wine regions?
Small Wonder is growing, and we're seeking a
Vineyard Operator
to join our team in Kayena, in the heart of the Tamar Valley.
As a certified organic vineyard, we take pride in producing premium wines using sustainable farming practices that work with nature, not against it.
What's In It For You
This is a rare opportunity to join a business committed to wine, sustainability, and community, and play an integral role in developing the business.
Competitive salary range, based on experience.
Work in a certified organic vineyard, using environmentally responsible farming practices.
Minimise exposure to hazardous chemicals used in conventional agriculture.
Receive on-the-job training and develop valuable vineyard and machinery skills.
Enjoy varied, active work in the outdoors.
Be part of a friendly, supportive and passionate team.
Work in the stunning Kayena region of the Tamar Valley, one of Australia's premier cool-climate wine regions.
Be part of something truly unique – the chance to make a lasting impact in Tasmania's wine and tourism sector.
About the Role
Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and care of a wide range of vineyard machinery and equipment. No two days will be the same, and you'll be part of a team committed to producing premium fruit through effective and safe vineyard practices.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in an environment where you'll be handling organic-approved products rather than hazardous chemicals commonly used in conventional viticulture. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating machinery and being part of a passionate team, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Vineyard Operator, you'll be involved in all aspects of vineyard machinery operations, including:
Operating tractors and specialised vineyard machinery
Applying organic-approved spray protection products and fertilisers
Mowing and undervine cultivation
Machinery servicing and general maintenance
Assisting with seasonal vineyard operations, including harvest and pruning
About You
We're not just looking for someone who can tick the boxes, but someone who is reliable, motivated and enjoys practical, hands-on work, with a passion for sustainability and organics.
You will have:
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to maintain equipment
Experience operating tractors and agricultural machinery, including tow behind and rear linkage implements
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Forklift license
A current Australian driver's license
It would also be highly regarded to have:
Vineyard machinery experience (including tractor operation in a vineyard setting)
A ChemCert accreditation
Experience with agricultural chemical handling and spray application
The ideal person would be from a vineyard background with similar experience. However, the right person can be trained - most importantly, we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
About Us
Overstory is a sustainably minded and forward-thinking wine business, with operations based at our certified organic vineyards at Small Wonder in Tamar Valley, Tasmania, and Wayfinder in Margaret River, Western Australia.
If you're looking for a role that combines machinery operation, outdoor work and sustainable agriculture, we'd love to hear from you.
