About the company
the company is a digital health platform built to connect care teams around the patient, covering care plans, multidisciplinary case conferences, and the day-to-day coordination that keeps care moving. The hard part in healthcare isn't the app. It's the data and the workflows underneath it. We're still early and actively building, and we're looking for the engineer who will own the backend and help drive how the whole product gets built.
The role
This is a founding, sole-ownership role, and it carries real weight. There's an existing Java and Spring Cloud backend, and you'll take it over: getting across the codebase quickly, making it your own, and driving it forward. You're not just writing services. You're the technical anchor who pushes the development process, sets how we build, and makes the calls that keep us moving in the right direction.
We want someone who thinks beyond code. When a product decision is unclear, or heading the wrong way, you're comfortable putting on a product and project lens, asking the right questions, and steering us to the better choice. You'll help shape the roadmap, not just deliver it, and your judgement will genuinely change where the product goes.
You'll come up to speed through a handover from our offshore development team and keep coordinating with them as you settle in. Their working language is Mandarin, so you'll need to be comfortable operating in a bilingual environment. If you want to take real ownership of a backend at an early stage and have a genuine say in what gets built, this is that role.
In your first few months you'll likely:
Take over the backend through the handover and own it, its deployments and its day-to-day operation
Help set the direction and priorities of the roadmap
Establish the engineering practices (testing, review, deployment) the product grows into
Design and ship the features that move the product forward
What you'll bring
You're self-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and happy carrying responsibility. You can weigh trade-offs, make a call, and explain your reasoning clearly to technical and non-technical people alike.

A strong communicator, comfortable collaborating closely with an offshore team in a bilingual setting
Product and delivery sense: able to think like an owner, question decisions, and prioritise what matters

Experience with the Spring Cloud ecosystem (Nacos, Sentinel, Seata or similar)

Experience as a lead or founding engineer, or taking an early-stage product forward
