Mechanical Engineer – Pressure Systems
The Devices Mechanical Engineering team develops innovative products from concept to production to improve health outcomes for millions of people around the world.
Mechanical engineers work within a project team to research, design, develop and verify products that can be manufactured in high volume.
This role is in the Pressure Systems Mechanical sub-team, which designs components and subsystems that deliver pressurised air to treat sleep apnoea and other respiratory conditions.
Responsibilities
Take responsibility for developing components, considering how design decisions impact product performance, manufacturability, and the end‐user experience.
Understand and apply design requirements relating to patients and customers, usability and accessibility, therapy performance, environmental factors, cost, quality, and design for manufacture and assembly.
Work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with industrial designers and engineers from mechanical, electronics, systems, software, and manufacturing disciplines.
Build and evaluate prototypes using a range of techniques, including additive manufacturing and hands‐on fabrication methods.
Design and conduct testing, including verification and validation activities, to demonstrate that designs meet requirements under expected use and operating conditions.
Solve design problems using scientific analysis from first principles, simulation tools and empirical methods.
Create and maintain accurate documentation of designs and testing.
Communicate progress, technical challenges, and risks proactively with project team members and stakeholders.
Participate in risk management activities, including identifying, assessing and mitigating design risks through processes such as DFMEA.
Work within Resmed's Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
Actively develop technical skills, apply Resmed engineering best practices, and share new learning that enhances team capability and improves ways of working.
Qualifications and Experience
2+ years of industry experience.
A curious, cutting-edge and analytical mind.
Excellent communication skills and a team player.
A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience with 3D CAD modelling – use of Creo, or any CAD package.
Engineering experience in a product development role, preferably within medical devices or another highly regulated industry.
Particular interest or experience in fluid dynamics, acoustics, pneumatic systems, pumps/blowers or electro‐mechanical systems.
Experience with ANSYS CFD.
Experience designing injection‐moulded components.
