Chandler Macleod is proud to partner with the Australian National Maritime Museum to recruit two Retail Assistants for the Museum Shop. This is a fantastic prospect to join one of Sydney's most iconic cultural institutions and play an important role in creating memorable experiences for visitors from across Australia and around the world.
These positions are ideal for candidates with strong retail and customer service experience who enjoy building genuine connections with customers in a welcoming, conversational environment. We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced retail professionals, university students seeking part-time work, or parents looking for family-friendly hours that can work around school pick-ups and drop-offs.
The Australian National Maritime Museum is one of Australia's leading cultural institutions, sharing Australia's rich maritime history through world-class exhibitions, programs and visitor experiences. Located on Sydney's stunning Darling Harbour waterfront, the Museum welcomes thousands of local, interstate and international visitors each year and offers a supportive, inclusive and community-focused workplace.
As a Retail Assistant, you will be an integral member of the Museum Shop team, delivering exceptional customer service while supporting the day-to-day operations of the retail store. This role is focused on providing visitors with a positive shopping experience through friendly engagement, product knowledge and professional service.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing outstanding customer service and assisting visitors with purchases and enquiries
Processing sales, returns and exchanges through the point-of-sale system
Handling cash and reconciling transactions accurately
Assisting with stock replenishment and inventory management




Maintaining visual merchandising and presentation standards throughout the store
Supporting opening and closing procedures
Assisting with online and phone enquiries where required
Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure an exceptional visitor experience
What's on Offer?
$***** per hour + super
***** hours per week (3–4 shifts per week)
Predominantly Monday to Friday roster
11:00am – 4:00pm shifts during off-peak periods
11:00am – 5:00pm shifts during peak periods
Flexibility to accommodate school drop-off and pick-up arrangements where possible
Initial contract until 30 June **** with possibility of extension

Previous retail, customer service or other customer-facing experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A friendly, professional and approachable manner
Confidence handling customer enquiries and transactions
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiencesReliability, flexibility and a positive attitude
Desirable
Experience using point-of-sale systems
Cash handling experience
Experience within tourism, hospitality, museums, attractions or similar visitor-facing environments
Visual merchandising experience

Successful candidates will commence from the week commencing 17 August or 24 August
