About the Opportunity
The Electrical/PLC Technician is the subject matter expert (SME) for all Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems on site and works closely with maintenance colleagues, contractors, and operators to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient operation of all facilities.
You are responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and programming electrical and PLC systems, while performing both preventive and corrective maintenance across plant equipment. The role focuses on equipment reliability through modern maintenance practices and continuous improvement, actively identifying long‐term corrective actions to improve plant performance.
Role Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Maintenance:
Minimise risks through safe work practices, inspections, and hazard identification.
Maintain and improve PLC systems to ensure efficient machine performance.
Deliver high‐quality maintenance outcomes with minimal rework.
Ensure team members receive adequate training where required.
Develop and execute reliability improvement plans to meet maintenance goals.
Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on plant and machinery
Perform breakdown repairs and corrective maintenance as required.
Maintain tools, equipment, and safety equipment in clean, serviceable condition.




Follow Michell Wool job procedures and complete tasks within required timeframes.
Liaise with contractors/sub‐contractors regarding electrical maintenance activities.
Complete pre‐job planning, including procedures and JSAs for all tasks.
Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy workshop environment.
Perform additional tasks as requested by the Maintenance Manager.
Participate in occasional after‐hours or weekend work when agreed.
Leadership:
Support, Lead and supervise the apprentice electrician as required.
Maintain effective communication with all employees regarding changes or issues and work priorities.
Compliance:
Comply with all company safety policies, procedures and environmental requirements.
Ensure adherence to relevant government regulations and electrical licensing obligations.
About You
A‐Class Electrical Licence (Electrical Trade Certification) - essential
Extensive experience with PLC, HMI, and VSD programming - essential
Fork lift and Elevated Work Platform licenses – essential
Confined space certification.
5+ years maintenance experience.
Awareness of working with chemicals and hazardous substances.
Experience establishing and implementing operating goals, objectives, and procedures.




Strong decision‐making and problem‐solving skills.
Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Significant experience in automated continuous‐process industrial environments.
Strong preventative maintenance background with a continuous improvement focus.
Experience in breakdown maintenance and reliability‐based maintenance systems.
