Reporting to our Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the general maintenance and repairs of all vessels on Hamilton Island, ensuring all work is carried out promptly, safely and to the highest standards of quality. Where you'll make an impact
Detect and diagnose mechanical faults in engines, outboard motors, propulsion systems and associated mechanical components using diagnostic equipment and manufacturer specifications.
Dismantle and remove marine diesel engine assemblies, marine transmissions,



steering mechanisms and other components, and check parts for wear, damage and serviceability.
Repair, replace and reassemble engine and mechanical components in accordance with service manuals and manufacturer specifications.
Tune and adjust marine diesel engines using diagnostic tools to ensure optimal performance and compliance with specifications.
Test and evaluate repaired engines and mechanical systems to confirm correct operation and performance.
Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on marine diesel engines, outboard motors, propulsion systems and auxiliary mechanical equipment.
Inspect, service and repair fuel, cooling, lubrication, hydraulic, steering and exhaust systems.
Remove, replace and adjust components including pumps, injectors, filters, belts, bearings, seals and gaskets.
Carry out breakdown repairs to minimise vessel downtime and maintain operational readiness of the marine fleet.
Maintain accurate service records, job cards, labour hours and parts usage.
Ensure all work complies with manufacturer specifications, marine industry standards and workplace health and safety requirements.
Assist with sea trials, commissioning and post-repair operational testing of vessels.
Maintain workshop tools, equipment and diagnostic instruments in a safe and serviceable condition.




Communicate effectively with supervisors and relevant departments regarding maintenance priorities and vessel status.
Participate in toolbox meetings, training and continuous improvement activities.
Work collaboratively in line with Hamilton Island values of safety, respect, teamwork and accountability.
Comply with all workplace health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Report hazards, incidents and near misses and assist in investigations as required.
Perform any other duties within scope as directed by the Fleet Manager or Supervisor.
What we're looking for
Carry out the inspection, diagnosis, servicing, maintenance, overhaul and repair of Hamilton Island's commercial marine fleet, including diesel propulsion engines, outboard motors, marine transmissions and associated mechanical systems. Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer specifications, legislative requirements and industry best practice to maximise vessel reliability and availability.
To be successful, you'll need
Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical/Marine Mechanical/Diesel fitting or equivalent
Previous experience of outboard and diesel inboards
Current C Drivers Licence
Current PWC and Boat Licence
If you have a Forklift Licence we would be very impressed
