Job Description

So, we are seeking a confident and enthusiastic Drill & Blast Engineer who shares our values – Think Sharp, Dig In and Care to join our high performing team.

About The Role

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering safe, effective and well-fragmented blast designs, while maintaining a strong focus on environmental performance and operational outcomes.

As part of a complex mining operation, you will gain exposure to a broad range of blasting applications, including:

Through-seam blastingCast blastingVibration-sensitive blastingTraditional waste and coal blasting methodologies

Your responsibilities will include:





Developing and optimising drill and blast designs and processesProducing designs that support the safe and efficient mining of waste and coalAnalysing blast performance and applying learnings throughout the mining cycleImplementing and improving quality control processes for drill and blast activitiesEnsuring designs and execution comply with environmental, safety and community requirementsWorking collaboratively with Technical Services, Operations, contractors and external stakeholdersSupporting the introduction of new drill and blast technologies and improved practicesUndertaking ad hoc technical projects that enhance site performance

The role offers the opportunity to build further depth in drill and blast engineering while working alongside experienced mining professionals in a technically varied operation.

Monday to Friday professional rosterBased on site at HVO

About You

You will be an experienced mining or civil engineer with a strong interest in drill and blast and a practical, improvement-focused approach. You will be comfortable working across planning, design, execution and performance analysis, and will take pride in delivering high-quality technical outcomes.

You will bring:

A commitment to the highest standards of health, safety, environment and community performanceTertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering,



or equivalent demonstrated practical experienceExperience in open cut mining, quarrying, civil construction or a related blasting environmentPractical experience in drill and blast design, implementation or analysisStrong planning, organisational and influencing skillsA methodical approach and excellent attention to detailThe ability to solve problems using technical knowledge, experience and lateral thinkingA genuine interest in developing specialist capability and contributing to best-practice drill and blast outcomes

Engineers with solid industry experience who are looking to further establish themselves in drill and blast are encouraged to apply.
