We are seeking an experienced
Crane and Mobile Plant Operator
to join our Marine team aboard
Ikamba
, Metro Mining's Offshore Floating Terminal at Skardon River.
This is a hands-on operational position with a strong focus on excavator and mobile plant operation. We are specifically looking for someone with a
high level of excavator experience
, who can confidently and safely work in a demanding marine and production environment.
About the role
Your responsibilities will include:
Operating E-Cranes, front-end loaders and dozers where appropriately qualified.
Operating an E-Crane requires similar control techniques and operating skills to those used when operating an excavator. For this reason, a high level of excavator experience is highly desirable and will be considered a strong advantage.
Completing plant pre-start inspections and reporting faults or maintenance requirements.
Assisting with cargo handling, loading, unloading, refuelling and waste management.
Supporting vessel operations, including mooring, casting off and anchoring activities.
Undertaking general deckhand duties, cleaning and routine vessel maintenance.
This is a physical, hands-on position and is not limited to operating machinery. You will be expected to assist with the physical clean-up of spilt cargo and maintaining a safe, clean and operational work area.
Participating in SWMS, JSAs, toolbox talks and incident-reporting processes.
Using hand tools and assisting with physical tasks when required.
Complying with all safety, environmental, marine and mining requirements.
Contributing positively to a diverse and safety-focused team.
About you
You will be a capable and safety-focused plant operator with substantial practical excavator experience.



You must be comfortable assisting with general vessel and deck duties outside your primary plant-operating responsibilities.
To be considered, you will ideally have:
Extensive, demonstrated excavator operating experience in mining, civil, marine or heavy industrial environments.
A current excavator RII competency, such as RIIHAN309F – Conduct telescopic materials handler operations or the relevant nationally recognised excavator unit, RIIWHS202E/RII-coded competency as applicable.
A current
High Risk Work Licence
in a relevant class.
Loader and/or dozer RII competencies.
A C6, G5 Offshore Crane or CO crane qualification —
desirable but not essential
.
STCW ******* certification or a Certificate of Safety Training (CoST), or a willingness and ability to obtain the required marine training.
Working at Heights certification.
A current First Aid certificate.
Strong safety awareness and a demonstrated commitment to following procedures.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
A practical, flexible attitude and willingness to assist across all areas of vessel operations.
Sufficient physical fitness to undertake manual and deck-based duties.
