Position Overview
The Exploration Geologist contributes to mineral exploration activities aimed at identifying, evaluating, and developing uranium resources as part of Orano Mining Australia's (OMA) exploration projects in South Australia and elsewhere across Australia. The role combines field and office-based work to collect, analyse, and interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data required to advance exploration programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Field Activities
Supervise and participate in field exploration campaigns, including drilling (mud rotary and diamond coring), borehole geophysics, ground geophysics, and airborne geophysical surveys.
Conduct geological and structural mapping at various scales.
Supervise and document drilling activities.
Perform geological logging of drill core and drill cuttings.
Review and validate borehole geophysical logging data.
Conduct geological, geochemical, and radiometric sampling in accordance with established procedures. Monitor sample quality and implement QA/QC protocols.
Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC) standards.
Data Management
Enter, verify, and validate geological data in OMA databases.
Maintain the traceability and integrity of exploration data.
Assist in the management and archiving of drill core and exploration samples.
Produce geological maps, drill logs, and cross-sections using OMA's geological software.
Geological Interpretation and Reporting




Contribute to the interpretation and reconciliation of geological and geophysical datasets.
Participate in identifying and prioritising exploration targets.
Assist in preparing statutory exploration reports for government authorities.
Prepare technical summaries and internal presentations.
Support the development of exploration programmes.
Exploration Target Generation and Project Evaluation
Identify and assess uranium exploration opportunities in South Australia and elsewhere in Australia.
Participate in regional geological studies using publicly available historical datasets (geology, geophysics, drilling, mineral occurrences, etc.).
Contribute to exploration target generation and ranking.
Participate in, or independently undertake, evaluations of competing exploration projects.
HSE Responsibilities
Strictly comply with safety procedures applicable to exploration sites in accordance with OMA's Safety Management System.
Participate in safety meetings and risk assessments.
Immediately report any incidents, near misses, or hazardous situations.
Apply environmental best practices during field activities.
Contribute to maintaining a proactive safety culture.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
University degree in Geology or Geosciences.
Higher degrees specialising in uranium geology, sedimentology or structural geology will be looked upon favourably
A specialisation in economic geology, mineral exploration, or geophysics would be an advantage.
Experience
Applications are encouraged from graduates through to geologists with approximately 10 years' exploration experience. Responsibilities, level of autonomy and remuneration will be aligned to the successful candidate's skills, experience and demonstrated capability.
Experience in uranium, hydrogen, or oil & gas exploration projects would be highly regarded.
Technical Skills
Sound knowledge of field geology, metallogeny, and economic geology.
Proficiency in drill logging and sampling techniques.
Understanding of geophysical methods applied to mineral exploration.
Experience with GIS and geological modelling software (ArcGIS, QGIS, Leapfrog, Micromine or equivalent, WellCAD).
Valuable command of Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of QA/QC requirements and mineral exploration reporting standards.
Personal Attributes

Ability to work in remote locations and under demanding climatic conditions.
Self-motivated with strong organisational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Position Requirements
Availability to work on field rotations.
Valid Australian driver's licence.
The successful candidate will benefit from technical mentoring and training designed to develop expertise in uranium exploration, specialist geological software, geological modelling, project management, and reporting in accordance with Australian mining industry standards.
