The Role
On behalf of The Key, we are recruiting an ambitious, detail-oriented, and strategic
Account Director / Senior Account Director
to join the Sydney team based in Redfern.
In this role, the successful candidate will take full ownership of their client portfolio, working independently while reporting directly to the General Manager. They will lead key consumer accounts—including taking the reins on accounts like
Clorox
—ensuring clients receive firm, structured, and high-value strategic guidance.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on position within a flat and team-oriented account service structure. Suited to someone who wants to actively shape and grow the agency, with clear, long-term progression opportunities available (including potential evolution into a General Manager role as the business expands).
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Customer & Relationship Management
Account Ownership:
Take full end-to-end ownership of the client portfolio, maintaining strong client health and building trust with Marketing Directors and Brand Managers.
Client Guidance:
Act as a firm, personable, and steady partner for clients, bringing structure and clarity to complex or "loose" briefs.
Commercial Growth:
Proactively identify project leads, grow existing accounts organically, and assist in setting yearly revenue targets.
Financial Management:
Prepare accurate client estimates, negotiate effectively, and ensure projects remain profitable.
Strategic Facilitation:
Facilitate brand strategy development and help clients articulate their objectives into clear design briefs.
Creative Translation:
Interpret client briefs into insightful reverse briefs and studio briefs that inspire outstanding creative work.
The Strategic Bridge:
Act as a trusted adviser between the client and the studio, balancing rational messaging with emotional hooks to drive action.
Mentorship:
Nurture junior account service staff to develop their strategic capabilities and mastery of agency tools.
3. Project Management
Delivery:
Oversee project timelines, workflows, and studio milestones to deliver projects on time, on budget, and profitably.
Studio Oversight:
Maintain tight control over studio resources and production capabilities.
Financial Tracking:
Liaise with financial leadership to ensure accurate and timely project billing as milestones complete.

Convince & Presentation
Workshop & Pitch Presence:
Hold the room with confidence, leading strategic presentations and storytelling sessions for senior client stakeholders.
Selling the Big Idea:
Build compelling rationales for creative concepts, leveraging

tools to demonstrate strategic alignment.
Constructive Feedback:
Evaluate studio work against brief objectives and deliver constructive feedback to designers.
Brand Champion:
Champion the agency's strategic process, vision, and high standards of work.
Collaboration:
Partner with creative leadership to continuously refine output, celebrate successes, and learn from challenges.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience
Agency Level:
Proven experience as an Account Director or Senior Account Director, or a high-performing Senior Account Manager ready to step up into an AD role.
Category Background:
FMCG experience is highly desirable. Broad consumer brand or retail experience will also be considered.
Strategic & Brand Exposure:
Hands-on exposure to brand strategy, brand positioning, and visual architecture.
Industry Network:
Strong industry contacts and networking abilities are highly valued to support word-of-mouth business opportunities.
