Anchor is seeking a
Peer Support Worker – Youth
to join our Youth Development Services team in Lilydale.
This is an opportunity to use your own lived experience of navigating homelessness services and help-seeking processes to connect authentically with young people, provide hope and practical support, and help young people build the tools and skills they need to thrive.
At Anchor, we believe that young people should be at the centre of the services designed to support them. In this role, you will help ensure the voices, experiences and ideas of young people actively shape the way our services are designed, delivered and evaluated.
About the Role
The
Peer Support Worker – Youth
works alongside young people and their families, providing individual and group support, information, education, advocacy and practical assistance.
You will draw on your own lived expertise to build authentic relationships with young people and provide insight into the challenges, barriers and concerns they may encounter when accessing support. Your experience will help you connect with young people in a genuine and meaningful
way, while supporting them to recognise their own strengths, develop skills and work towards their goals.
Working across Anchor's Youth Foyer and Transitional Housing services, you will:
Support young people to actively participate in co-design and co-production across service planning, program development, evaluation and decision-making.
Provide individual and group support, advocacy and practical assistance to young people and their families.
Co-design and facilitate activities with young people, including out-of-hours group activities.
Support young people to access specialist services, brokerage and other practical supports.
Work collaboratively with Anchor's youth programs and crisis response team to support continuity of service.
Build connections with community organisations and stakeholders to increase opportunities, social inclusion and community participation for young people.




Contribute to the development of training and resources that build practical tools and skills for life.
Maintain accurate participant records and other required documentation.
Hours of Work
This is a 3 day per week position. Standard working hours are:
2 days per week: 9.00am to 5.06pm
1 day per week: *****pm to 8.06pm
About You
You will bring your own lived expertise of navigating homelessness services and help-seeking processes, together with the ability to use that experience thoughtfully and intentionally to support young people.
You will have:
An understanding of the unique nature of peer work and the principles of lived experience practice, including Intentional Peer Support.
Experience working with young people experiencing crisis or significant challenges.
An understanding of the service systems and support networks relevant to young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
An understanding of adolescent and young adult development.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build authentic relationships.
The ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
A genuine commitment to working within Anchor's values and philosophy.
A qualification in, or commitment to working towards, Youth Work, Peer Work, Community Services or a related field is desirable.
You will also require:
A current Victorian driver's licence.
A Level 2 First Aid Certificate, or a willingness to obtain one.
A satisfactory Criminal History Check and a Working with Children Check (employee).
A minimum of two years since you last accessed specialist homelessness support as a client.
