Role Description
The Nature Tour Guide is a casual, on-site role based out of Forestville, NSW. In this position, the guide leads day tours mostly to the Blue Mountains and Central Coast, providing engaging commentary on local ecology, culture, history, and Indigenous heritage where appropriate. Daily responsibilities include planning and conducting tours, ensuring guest safety and comfort, and adapting itineraries to conditions and group needs. The guide facilitates immersive experiences off the beaten track, fosters respect for the environment, and promotes responsible tourism practices. Additional tasks may include coordinating logistics, liaising with local partners, managing bookings or guest inquiries, and representing Australia By Nature's values in all guest interactions.
The role will commence in October **** and will be approx 2 -3 days a week.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of local Australian flora, fauna, geography, and natural environments, with the ability to communicate this information clearly and accurately.
Excellent group communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to present cultural and historical information in an engaging and respectful manner.
Experience guiding tours, outdoor activities, or educational programs, with demonstrated ability to manage diverse group dynamics and varying fitness levels.
Commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism, including adherence to safety protocols, Leave No Trace principles, and respect for local communities and Indigenous perspectives.
High level of customer service skills, with a focus on creating welcoming, inclusive, and memorable experiences for guests from varied backgrounds.
Strong organizational and time-management skills to plan routes, coordinate logistics, and adjust itineraries in response to changing conditions.
Physical fitness and stamina to lead walking, hiking, and outdoor activities in varied terrain and weather conditions.
Valid driver's license and protected driving record.
First aid certification or willingness to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
Prior experience in tourism, outdoor education, environmental studies, or related fields is beneficial.
