About the Role -
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast paced manufacturing environment and enjoys working closely with Production, Engineering and Finance to ensure materials are delivered on time and projects stay on schedule.
As our Purchasing Officer, you'll be responsible for sourcing and procuring custom manufactured components and production materials to meet project deadlines. You'll play a critical role in maintaining supplier relationships, managing inventory requirements and supporting efficient manufacturing operations.
You will also assist with purchasing factory consumables, construction tools, maintenance items and other general operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities -
Plan purchasing activities around fixed production schedules and project deadlines.
Coordinate supplier lead times to ensure the timely delivery of materials.
Source and order custom manufactured components.
Interpret CAD drawings and technical files for supplier quotations and manufacturing.
Procure fabrication and sheet metal components, including laser cutting.
Monitor supplier performance, quality and delivery.
Work within an ERP system to manage purchasing,
inventory and demand planning.
Support project based purchasing while monitoring job costs.
Assess supplier capacity, identify potential supply constraints and develop alternative sourcing strategies.
Raise purchase orders for factory consumables, tooling, maintenance items and other operational requirements.
What We're Looking For -
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Previous purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment.
Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Experience purchasing custom manufactured components.
Ability to read and understand CAD drawings and manufacturing file types.
Knowledge of general fabrication and sheet metal manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, folding and welding.
Understanding of metal material grades, finishes and protective coatings.
Experience with quality assurance processes and documentation control.
Experience using ERP purchasing and inventory management systems.
Experience with Fishbowl ERP software would be highly regarded.
Understanding of project based job costing.
Excellent supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
Robust problem solving skills with the ability to anticipate supply issues and implement practical solutions.
