We're looking for a Tug Engineer to join our Melbourne towage team on an 80% permanent part-time, unrostered basis.Why You'll Want to Join UsYou'll be based in one of Australia's busiest and most diverse ports.You'll play a key role in maintaining and operating advanced marine systems, helping ensure the safety and reliability of every operation.With a vibrant city atmosphere, access to beautiful beaches, and a rich maritime history, Newcastle offers an exciting lifestyle and strong work-life balance for maritime professionals.This is an unrostered part-time role requiring a minimum of 146 working days per year (equivalent to 80% of a full time schedule).
As the role may require stepping in at short notice, preference will be given to candidates who live within two hours of the port or are willing to relocate at their own expense.You will receive a fortnightly salary based on a pro-rated structure, with the current full-time equivalent salary for a Tug Engineer in Melbourne set at $244,****** per annum.How You'll Make a DifferenceAs a Tug Engineer, you'll play a key role in keeping our vessels running safely and reliably.Reporting to the Tug Master, your responsibilities will include:Maintaining all onboard machinery,



including engine and deck equipmentCarrying out maintenance and repair of marine systems and equipmentSupporting safe and effective winch operation during towage jobsIdentifying and reporting defects promptly to keep operations on trackPreparing maintenance records and operational reports as requiredEnsuring compliance with safety procedures, regulations, and company policiesAssisting on deck when needed to support the crew and vessel operationsParticipating in drills, training, and skills developmentWhat You'll BringTo thrive in this role, you'll bring:A minimum Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalentA valid AMSA Medical that matches your Certificate of Competency CurrentProvide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificatesSolid knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipmentExperience working in towage to tug operations will help you step in with confidenceA strong focus on safety and following procedures to get the job done rightThe ability to stay calm, think clearly, and adapt when conditions changeA willingness to embrace technology and support sustainable ways of workingThe right to live and work in AustraliaBuilding a Diverse WorkplaceIn Svitzer we value the diversity of our talent and will always strive to recruit the best person for the job – we value diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to gender, age, nationality, race, sexual orientation, disability,
