The role
The
Risk Officer
role focuses on helping the department strengthen its risk culture by supporting teams to apply the Risk Management Framework in practical, consistent ways.
It involves working closely with stakeholders to improve the quality of risk information, guide risk assessments, and build capability through training, workshops and ongoing advice.
The role also contributes to improving systems, processes and reporting so the organisation can better understand and respond to its risks.
A key part of the job is balancing accuracy and quality with the need to deliver timely, fit‐for‐purpose guidance in a busy and varied operating environment.
The Risk Officer works to maintain consistent risk practices across diverse teams and locations, while supporting continuous improvement, encouraging regular review of risk registers and business continuity plans, and helping uplift overall risk maturity across the department.

What you will bring to the role
Strong knowledge of risk management, governance and internal control principles, with experience applying these across wide-ranging business environments.
The ability to build productive relationships and communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels to influence better risk practices.
A collaborative, proactive approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and enhancing risk maturity across the organisation.
Solid analytical and problem‐solving skills, enabling you to provide practical,



fit‐for‐purpose advice and challenge assumptions where needed.
Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, allowing you to manage competing demands while delivering high‐quality, timely outcomes.
Key knowledge and experience
Knowledge of corporate governance, internal control, and risk management principles and practices and exposure to a wide range of enterprise operations and activities
Experience in delivering corporate governance and risk management services
Some knowledge and understanding of government processes, public sector management, and NSW public sector legislation.
What is an essential requirement:
Tertiary qualifications in governance, risk management or related disciplines; or equivalent experience.
