About the role
McCrossin Franklin Metal is seeking a reliable and motivated
Yardsman / Workshop Labourer / Trainee Metal Fabricator
to join our team on a full-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and is interested in developing a long-term career in the steel fabrication and metalwork industry.
You will play an important role in supporting our workshop and yard operations, including material handling, job preparation, stock organisation, loading and unloading trucks, and assisting our experienced tradespeople.
The successful applicant will receive hands-on training and the prospect to progressively develop valuable fabrication and manufacturing skills.
What you'll be doing
Performing general yard and workshop duties, including material handling, stock management and maintaining organised work areas.
Assisting with the preparation of steel components and materials for fabrication, welding, protective coatings and dispatch.
Supporting experienced boilermakers, welders and metal fabricators with day-to-day workshop activities.
Learning to safely operate and maintain basic workshop machinery, tools and equipment under supervision.
Measuring, identifying and preparing materials for production.
Loading and unloading trucks using a forklift.
Receiving deliveries and checking materials against delivery documentation.
Assisting with the packing, storage and dispatch of fabricated steel and finished products.
Maintaining clean, safe and organised workshop and yard areas.
Assisting with stocktakes and monitoring consumable and material levels.




Following all workplace health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment.
Supporting other team members as required to help meet production and project deadlines.
Progressively developing fabrication, machinery operation and general metalworking skills through structured on-the-job training.
What we're looking for

The ability to follow instructions and work safely within a busy manufacturing environment.
Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A current Australian driver's licence.
A current forklift licence, which is essential for this position.
Previous experience in steel fabrication, manufacturing, construction, warehousing or a similar environment is desirable but not essential.
A willingness to undertake training, accept feedback and develop new skills.
A responsible attitude towards workplace safety, machinery and company equipment.
