The Role
A Speech Pathologist in the Neuro Stream (Stroke) at Prince of Wales Hospital plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with complex neurological conditions.
The position involves comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of speech pathology interventions in line with Speech Pathology Australia and NSW Health guidelines, ensuring optimal patient outcomes within required timeframes.
The clinician applies advanced clinical reasoning and independent judgement to manage complex cases, communicates effectively and sensitively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, and provides specialist consultation to support coordinated care.
Responsibilities also include education of patients, families, staff, and students; supervision of junior clinicians; and active participation in quality improvement initiatives.
Ongoing professional development, adherence to safety and quality frameworks, and contribution to service development are essential to maintaining high standards of care.

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370.
Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units.
POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care.
We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and eligibility for membership for Speech Pathology Australia
Extensive post graduate clinical experience in speech pathology in an acute setting including working in stroke across acute, sub-acute and rehabilitation phases
Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff




Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
