As an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Developer at the Department of Education, you will create a better future for Australians through education.
You will bring AI development/workflow experience and skills to deliver innovative AI solutions.
You will have a track record of design and delivery of Microsoft Copilot Agents/Microsoft platform solutions and projects that are designed and developed to enable key workflows and internal business processes.
Experience with other AI tooling and products is also desirable.
You will support AI agent development through effective stakeholder engagement, systems thinking, and form design.
The role is critical in ensuring that user needs are captured and translated into practical, accessible solutions that align with program objectives.
The team is responsible for Digital Services across the department and is looking to expand its ability to provide AI development and delivery services across the Department.
The key duties of the position include:
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
AI solution Design and Delivery
Supporting the planning, design and delivery of AI projects.
Designing, configuring, customising, testing and maintaining AI workflows.
Analysing requirements and recommending solution options.
Supporting system integration and interoperability.
Monitoring performance, fixing defects and implementing enhancements.
AI Architecture and Technical Design
Preparing solution designs, architecture and technical documentation.
Applying systems thinking across interconnected systems.
AI Governance and Assurance




Ensuring compliance with government security and governance requirements.
Providing design assurance.
Contributing to development standards and processes.
Data governance for AI systems.
Stakeholder Engagement
Explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Conducting strategic stakeholder conversations.
Presenting to executives.
Partnering with business subject matter experts.
AI and Machine Learning Engineering
Building, training, fine-tuning and evaluating AI/ML models.
Prompt engineering and optimisation for generative AI systems.
Model performance evaluation and benchmarking.
Eligibility
Employment at the Department of Education is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act **** including:
Citizenship:
Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act ****, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
Security Clearance:
This is a designated security assessed position.
The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
