Job Description
Job Overview:
The Structural Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of Structural (Eng) and with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Structural (Eng) problems.
They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures, as well as building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers.
The Structural Engineer understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations through analysis of possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform FEED, Studies, and detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on more complex and demanding engineering tasksApply knowledge and skills to complete diverse assignmentsPrepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and proceduresPrioritize and organize own work to meet deadlinesFocus on completing work within budgetsClearly communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activitiesGain familiarity with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicableInitiate interface with other disciplines to obtain input for discipline designsPerform computer analyses of structures designed by others with guidance from Senior/PPL engineersPrepare design calculations as requiredAssist in the preparation of specifications with guidance from colleaguesPerform engineering check of draftingPerforms engineering checks prepared by others within the disciplinePerform design verification through single discipline check and assist with inter-discipline checks (IDC)Prepare & review MTO's of structures under supervisionProvide engineering support as requiredAssist in the preparation of subcontract documentsReview vendor dataAssist in bid evaluations
Reports to:
Project: Lead Engineer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise with: All design/drafting disciplines, all Engineering disciplines, Construction site/Fabrication groups, and Document
control
Supervises: Trainee Engineers
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering3-8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design, or equivalent experience in a similar project environment is desirable Eager to learnWorking knowledge of English, both oral and writtenHSE, TQM and cost-consciousShow flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yardsThe replacement of colleagues during illness and holidaysThe provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirableThe managing/learning of future current working methods and software applicationsAccredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regionsFamiliar with the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicableKnowledge of many basic design techniques and analysis methods
Preferred Qualifications and Education:




Preferably a Registered Engineer in Training (ElT) or member of a professional engineering society desirable
