The City of Kalamunda is seeking an experienced and community-focused Natural Areas Technical Officer to coordinate environmental projects, support natural area restoration and strengthen community participation in caring for the local environment.
This opportunity will see you combine environmental knowledge, project delivery and community engagement to protect and enhance the City's bushland, wetlands, waterways and reserves.
You will work closely with volunteers, schools, contractors, community groups and internal teams to turn environmental priorities into meaningful outcomes on the ground.

The City of Kalamunda is a local authority with a population of 60,000 located approximately a 35-minute drive from the Perth CBD.
The City provides the opportunity to work in a diverse environment from rural, natural bushland to highly developed residential, commercial and industrial areas.
About this Chance
As the Natural Areas Technical Officer, you will coordinate and deliver on-ground environmental projects and community initiatives that protect, restore and enhance the City's natural assets.
Working under the direction of the Coordinator Natural Areas, you will support the delivery of environmental projects across reserves, wetlands, waterways and natural areas.
You will also provide technical advice, pursue grant funding and help increase community awareness and participation through programs such as Friends Groups, Adopt-a-Patch and Plants for Residents.
In this role, you will:
•Coordinate environmental projects from planning through to completion
•Deliver projects across bushland, wetlands, waterways and reserves
•Support revegetation, biodiversity and natural resource management initiatives
•Work with Friends Groups, schools, volunteers and community organisations
•Prepare grant applications and manage funded projects through to acquittal
•Provide technical environmental advice to internal and external stakeholders
•Coordinate environmental education and community awareness activities




•Collect data, monitor outcomes and contribute to environmental reporting
About You
This is an exciting opportunity for an environmental professional who enjoys combining technical knowledge with practical project delivery and community engagement.
You are organised, collaborative and comfortable managing competing priorities.
You can build strong working relationships with community groups, volunteers, schools, contractors and colleagues while maintaining a clear focus on environmental outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
•Relevant experience in environmental management or natural resource management
•Strong knowledge of environmental and conservation practices
•Understanding of relevant environmental legislation
•Experience delivering environmental projects from planning to completion
•Strong community engagement, consultation and relationship-building skills
•Well-developed written communication and report-writing capability
•Experience collecting and analysing data to measure program effectiveness
•A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or an equivalent discipline
•A current WA C or C-A class Driver's Licence
Selection Criteria
Extensive experience in environmental technical works
Comprehensive knowledge of environmental and conservation practices
Understanding of relevant environmental legislation
Highly developed verbal and written communications skills, including interpersonal skills, report writing, consultation, correspondence, negotiation and meeting participation skills with the ability to relate to all sections of the community, internal departments and external agencies.




Proven ability to provide excellence in customer service and work with the City's Friends Groups, community members and local school community.
Ability to collect and utilise data to report on outcomes and analyse program effectiveness.
Proven ability to deliver environmental projects from conception to acquittal Highly developed ability to self-manage and prioritise work in a timely and flexible manner to achieve outcomes.
High standard of computer literacy including Microsoft Office.

Hours of Work
This is a permanent full time position working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight.
Flexible work options are available, including a 9-day fortnight or flexitime.
About the Benefits
The salary range for this position is $93,063 - $100,087 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) plus superannuation.
Other inclusions are annual increments, annual salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme and 22 days annual leave which attracts 17.5% loading.
We also offer flexible work arrangements or the option for a rostered day off fortnightly or monthly.
