Your role
The Principal Project Officer – Project Risk Management supports risk management across the Building Homes for NSW Program, with $6.6b invested by the NSW Government to deliver new social housing properties, improve maintenance of public housing and boost homelessness support services.
Operating within the Portfolio Management Office (PfMO), the role is responsible for embedding a consistent and proactive risk management approach across a diverse portfolio of construction projects, while ensuring alignment with the NSW Government and Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Risk Management Framework.
The role provides expert advice to senior leadership and collaborates with project teams and the Homes NSW Risk and Compliance team to ensure effective oversight, reporting, and continuous improvement of risk management practices.
The role is central in building a risk-aware culture that supports performance, compliance, and innovation in construction project delivery and program management.
What you'll do
Leadership role in the development and continuous improvement of the program-wide risk management function, aligned with the DCJ Risk Management Framework and Homes NSW strategic objectives.
Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on risk and issues, including emerging risks, high-priority exposures, and treatment plans.
Embed consistent risk management practices across project teams by developing tools, guidance, and training aligned with NSW Government policy and ISO*****:**** – Risk Management.
Facilitate systematic application of risk assessment, treatment, and monitoring processes across all construction projects, including business continuity considerations.
Monitor and report on the health and effectiveness of risk controls, coordinating the development of improvement initiatives, where needed.
Champion a proactive risk culture through leadership of risk workshops, mentoring, and support across the Program.
Follow the direction and advice from the Homes NSW Risk and Compliance team to ensure independence, integrity,



and compliance in risk management activities.
Coordinate reporting processes and prepare high-quality risk updates for governance bodies, the Homes NSW Executive, and stakeholders.
What we're looking for

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Strong stakeholder management skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and prioritise competing demands
Experience dealing with sensitive, confidential and complex matters.
Tertiary qualifications in risk or related discipline and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
