The Who
Sea Harvest Australia (SHA)
is a vertically integrated agribusiness headquartered in Fremantle, Western Australia, providing premium quality and sustainable seafood to Australian and international consumers.
The Fishing Division (SHF)
is the single largest owner operator in the Shark Bay Prawn Managed Fishery and the sole owner operator in the Exmouth Prawn Managed Fishery.
Sea Harvest also catch and process a range of other species such as scallops, blue swimmer crabs, as well as
Spanish Mackerel from the WA Mackerel Managed Fisheries
.
The fishing fleet of prawn and fish trawlers are set up to process, package, and snap freeze their catch at sea, ensuring a high quality, consistent and sustainable seafood offering.
The What
Sea Harvest Fishing is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced commercial fishing Skippers to join our Spanish Mackerel vessel,
Sturmvogel
, commencing in mid-August ****, with departure from Exmouth.
Operating out of Broome, Western Australia for most of the year, the
Sturmvogel
fishes the rich Spanish Mackerel grounds along the Kimberley and Pilbara coasts, offering an exciting opportunity to work in one of Australia's premier commercial fisheries.
The vessel also requires 2-3 crew and if the successful candidate can supply his/her own team, that would be a decided advantage.
Fishing trip durations are largely driven by catch volume and refuelling requirements, whilst the off-swing period is to be discussed and agreed upon.
The annual Mackie season generally spans March to November.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager; Australian Fishing,
your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
· Command and manage a 19-metre commercial fishing vessel and associated dories to maximise catch quantity.
· Preservation and storage of Spanish Mackerel whilst maintaining strict quality standards.
· Ensuring strict adherence to the Vessel's Safety Management System (VSMS).
· Ensure regular engine room servicing and preventative maintenance is carried out.
· Navigate the ship within operational boundaries and licensed areas.
· Maintain regular communication with shore-based management and support.
· Managing day-to-day fishing activities of the crew ensuring everyone works together as a team to accomplish the task of maintaining a safe, disciplined, efficient and enjoyable workplace.
The Skills, Experience and Attributes Required
· Master Class V (<24Mtrs NC)
· Marine Engine Driver (MEDII)
· Radio operators' license
· First Aid Certificate
· Minimum 2-3 years commercial fishing experience
· Strong work ethic
· Physically fit
· Able to live aboard for extended periods
· Well-developed communication and organisational skills
The Rewards
The successful applicant will enter a Joint Venture (sharefish) arrangement with the owner, Sea Harvest Fishing Pty Ltd,
and shall be the Managing Partner in Partnership Agreements with the crew.
Percentage share of the catch proceeds is to be negotiated with Sea Harvest
