Senior Policy Officer
Clerk Grade: 9/10
Employment Type: Ongoing, Full-time
Hybrid work arrangements, Parramatta - 4PSQ or Gosford.
Office attendance required 2–3 days per week.
Salary: Base $129,464 - $142,665 per annum plus superannuation
This role sits within NSW Fair Trading's Strategy, Policy and Delivery Branch in the Consumer and, Rental, Strata and Property Policy teams.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within NSW Fair Trading for a Senior Policy Officer.
We're seeking an analytical and collaborative individual to develop, implement and lead policy initiatives that deliver improved regulatory outcomes.
You will play a key role in researching, analysing and advising on policy and legislative issues that shape fair, safe and efficient marketplaces.

About the Role
What you'll do
Conduct research, consultation, and analysis to inform policy positions and support the development and implementation of policy and legislative reform
Thoroughly understand and analyse legislation,
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure balanced policy outcomes.
Prepare high-quality advice, briefs, and submissions for senior executives and ministers.
Contribute to the review of legislation, frameworks, and programs to identify improvement opportunities.
Develop and implement policy and reform initiatives that align with the NSW Government's and Fair Trading's strategic objectives.
Monitor and evaluate regulatory reforms to support continuous improvement.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Policy development experience – proven success drafting or implementing regulatory or legislative frameworks.
Analytical thinking – strong ability to interpret complex research, data and evidence.
Communication – excellent written and verbal skills, with clarity and influence.
Stakeholder engagement – collaborative approach to negotiation and relationship management.
Adaptability – comfortable managing competing priorities in dynamic environments and taking initiative to proactively drive and deliver priorities.
Leadership - ability to mentor team members with empathy and by providing constructive feedback.
Essential criteria




Demonstrated experience developing and delivering policy or legislative analysis, advice and reform.
Robust research, analysis, and written communication skills.
Understanding of government policy processes and regulatory reform.
Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in policy, law, economics, or related field.
Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting
at $****** base plus superannuation
